How getting quotes works

  1. Tell us about the job

The type of work, your suburb, anything tricky like powerlines or tight access, and photos if you have them.

  2. We pass it to up to 2 businesses

Local operators from our lists who cover your suburb and do that kind of work. Never more than two, so your phone doesn't ring all day.

  3. Compare and choose

They contact you to quote. Ask for it in writing, check the insurance certificate, and pick who you're happy with.

Local tree services, checked before they're listed

Every business is researched by hand before it goes on a list. This is what we check, and where you still need to ask.

No business pays to be listed or to move up a list.

How we rank businesses
ABN and business name
Looked up on the Australian Business Register. It has to be active and match the name the business trades under.
Local base and service area
A real local base, not a call-forwarding front, and the suburbs the business says it covers.
Qualifications
Arborist qualifications and memberships as the business states them, such as AQF Level 5 or QAA membership. Ask to see certificates.
Insurance
Public liability cover where the business publishes it. We don't hold their certificates, so ask for one before work starts.
Reviews and history
Google rating and review count, checked by hand, and how long the business has been trading.

How tall is the tree?

Height drives the price more than anything else. For scale, a single-storey house is around 5 m to the roof ridge. These are typical South East Queensland ranges; access, powerlines and taking the green waste away move the price most.

  1. 20 m+
$4,500 and upVery large trees, may need a crane
  2. 10 to 20 m
    $2,000 to $5,000Large trees
  3. 5 to 10 m
    $800 to $2,500Medium trees
  4. Under 5 m
$250 to $800Small trees and shrubs

Other jobs

Arborist report
From about $300

Tree down after a storm?

Safety comes before any tree work. In this order:

  1. Anyone hurt or in danger? Call 000.
  2. Powerlines down or touching the tree? Stay at least 10 metres away and call Energex on 13 19 62. Don't let anyone touch the tree until the lines are safe.
  3. Storm damage to your home? The SES can make it safe with temporary measures. Call 132 500.
  4. Once it's safe, a tree crew can cut it off the house or car and clear it.

We pass urgent requests to local businesses straight away, but we're a quote service, not an emergency service.

About Compare Tree Loppers

Is Compare Tree Loppers a tree service?

No. We're an independent comparison site. We research and rank local tree services and pass quote requests to up to 2 of them. We don't do tree work ourselves.

Do businesses pay to be on the lists?

No business pays to be listed or to move up. Businesses may pay us for the quote requests we send them, and any paid placement is labelled Featured. See how we make money.

Why not just search Google for a tree lopper?

You can, but some tree lopping websites look local but pass your call to someone else, and the ads don't tell you who's qualified or insured. Every business on our lists has been checked for a matching ABN, a named owner, a local base and years of real reviews.

Do I need council approval to remove a tree?

Often, yes. Brisbane City Council and the City of Gold Coast both protect many trees on private land, and penalties fall on the owner. See our Brisbane and Gold Coast guides.

Which areas do you cover?

The Gold Coast and Brisbane for now, with more of South East Queensland to come.
